GOIANIA, BRAZIL – History has been written at the Autodromo Internacional Ayrton Senna. In only his second World Championship start, Veda Ega Pratama secured a monumental third-place finish at the 2026 Brazilian Grand Prix, becoming the first Indonesian rider ever to stand on a Grand Prix podium in any class.

The 17-year-old Honda Team Asia rider delivered a performance that felt like a natural evolution for those who have followed his trajectory from the Asia Talent Cup. After a sensational P5 debut in Thailand, Veda proved that his pace in Buriram was no fluke, navigating a chaotic, red-flagged race in Goiania to claim his piece of history.

Race Breakdown: Resilience Under Pressure
Veda started from a career-best P4 on the grid, keeping himself firmly within the lead group during the opening stages. However, the race was far from straightforward:

  • Mid-Race Turbulence: Following a clash with another competitor, Veda momentarily slipped down to P10.
  • The Turning Point: A red flag on Lap 15, triggered by a crash involving Scott Ogden, forced a race stoppage. This gave Veda and the Honda Team Asia crew a crucial opportunity to regroup.
  • The 5-Lap Sprint: Upon the restart, Veda was clinical. Starting from 10th on the revised grid, he sliced through the field with the aggressive yet calculated style that defined his 2023 ATC championship run.
  • Final Lap Heroics: In the closing moments, Veda moved past Alvaro Carpe to secure P3, finishing just 1.650 seconds behind the race winner, Maximo Quiles.

The Big Picture

This result propels Veda to third in the World Championship standings with 27 points, trailing Morelli by a single point and Quiles by 18. It is a massive statement not just for Indonesia, but for Southeast Asian talent as a whole. With Malaysia's Hakim Danish also securing a strong P10 finish, the region's future in the MotoGP paddock has never looked brighter.

"It was incredible. I was struggling before the red flag, but this is my highest achievement so far," Veda said in his post-race interview. "I would like to thank all the people of Indonesia, the sponsors, and my family."

The paddock now shifts to the United States for the Grand Prix of the Americas in Austin, Texas (March 27-29). If Veda can maintain this momentum at COTA, the "Yogyakarta Prodigy" might be looking at more than just podiums this season.
